How it works

### How voice dictation works

The microphone is wherever you are already working.

1. **Tap the microphone** A microphone sits in the AI chat box and in the manuscript editor toolbar. Tap it and start speaking in English.
2. **Speak your thought** Ask a question out loud, or dictate a paragraph straight into your draft. Your words appear at the cursor, right where you were working.
3. **Keep the flow** Turn on clean mode and Alfred removes filler words and fixes punctuation as it transcribes, so what lands on the page reads like writing, not talking.

### Dictate where the work happens

#### Dictate at the cursor

Voice input drops your words exactly where the cursor sits, in the middle of a sentence or at the end of a section. No separate transcription window, no copy and paste.

#### Clean mode

An optional clean mode removes filler words like "um" and "you know" and fixes punctuation as it goes. Turn it off when you want a verbatim transcript instead.

#### Speak your questions

Ask Alfred a question by voice in the AI chat. Useful when you are reading with your hands on a paper and your eyes off the keyboard.

#### Dictate your manuscript

Draft directly into the manuscript editor by voice. Get a first pass down while the thought is fresh, then tidy it with the writing tools already in the editor.
